Open ended idea: So many times, I hear ‘art lessons are not fun, music lessons are not fun.’ While they can be offered as academic subjects, the majority of students won’t go on to be professional musicians, artists, actors… but can still benefit hugely from being creative, listening to music, playing modern songs, slapping paint on a canvas… and NOT BEING JUDGED OR MARKED on the results. Let’s make the lessons FUN and expressive, in an increasingly competitive world let’s have somewhere where kids can be kids and express themselves freely without the strictures of academic excellence. As a side effect I would bet that students would be inclined to continue their studies in these subjects if they had had a great experience up to grade 9.
