Open ended idea:
One big step forward would be helping students and parents understand that the purpose of Arts Education is NOT turning students into performers. Instead, there is a legitimate reason that The Greeks placed so much emphasis on knowing thyself. Where better to explore one's self in relation to other productive people than arts, design and culture studies? To know self is to know where you come from, to identify your life's purpose, and to appreciate and give thanks for this precious life. Put another way: what is the value of the Burj Khalifa if not understood and appreciated as an amazing reflection of our amazing selves. It's not a building. It's a testament to greatness in Arts, Design and Culture. Our students need to strive for such heights and beyond. If they are limited to the math of the tower they will fail to understand the heart that beats within and breathed life into her beauty.
